This is a 1-day class is specifically designed for the entry and intermediate-level powder horn maker and/or those seeking remedial instruction. Build your very own personalized powder horn while you learn an overview of powder horn history and detailed time-proven fundamentals of contemporary and traditional powder horn making.
This year's project is a traditional powder horn (circa 1740-1830) with a recessed throat, integral strap ring, and flat base plug. Each student will build from a choice of unique pre-fabricated kits consisting of partially-prepared horn, base plug blank, and all pieces required for completion. A brief introduction to common engraving techniques is included. Students will leave class with a finished engraved powder horn made by their own hand.
