This month I want to talk about some of the amazing prizes that we have for the 2022 Gunmaker’s Hall Giveaway. Jeff Luke has been making some of the finest hunting pouches you can find. He is a stickler for historically accurate work. He gave me a description of the pouch he made for us in a recent conversation. Jeff explained it like this.
We have two fine flintlock arms this year by Larry Horrigan and Malchiah Pifer, along with some fantastic horn work by Orville Mumma and a really nice shooting bag by Jeff Luke. More prizes will follow.
This month we officially kick off the 2021 Gunmaker’s Hall Giveaway. Every year Gunmaker’s Hall sells tickets for a drawing to raise money for Gunmaker’s Hall and the NMLRA. The drawing includes the Incentive Gun, this is a handmade flintlock long arm typically crafted by a new up and coming gunmaker.
Well, here it is winter already. Is it cold there? It has been around freezing here, below freezing at night. I’ve been working on the Americans with Disabilities Act rifle project. This is a flintlock muzzle loading rifle, shooting bag, powder horn, hard case and accoutrements that will be given away as one prize, to raise money for building the ADA compliant restrooms at the Walter Cline range in Friendship Indiana.
NMLRA Staff and Gunmakers’Hall Chairman Benjamin Quearry have decided to postpone the annual drawing until October 2nd. With the cancellation of the 2020 National Championships being canceled, we need a bit more time to plan the filming of the drawing so everyone can watch.
Gunmaker’s Hall is building a rifle and a complete set of accoutrements for a drawing similar to the annual Gunmaker’s Hall giveaway. The proceeds will go to the NMLRA to help finance the ADA restroom project.
This is not just a rifle, it is also an opportunity to see and learn about its construction techniques. We will begin selling tickets to win this once in a lifetime gun online and every month in Muzzle Blasts
Well, it’s hot again. Dang if spring didn’t scoot right by and now it’s summer. It’s been raining so much nobody wants to go out and shoot. Weather seldom stopped our forefathers though. Even great battles of the civil war were fought in the rain until the rain got so hard both sides could no longer fire and that was seldom. The slow light rain we’ve been having today did not even slow our ancestors down. So yeah, time to get out and practice.
For my donation to this year’s Gunmaker’s Hall Giveaway, I wanted to create a hunting pouch that could have been indicative of a piece found in the early expansion west around the last quarter of the 18 th century, with just enough asymmetry and “character” to make it believable.
Today we're taking a look at the NMLRA Gunmakers Hall Incentive Rifles from Mike Miller and Malchiah Pifer. We can't thank these two craftsmen enough for their contribution and hard work.
