CVA updates recommended charges for the Paramount line

Last week, CVA updated their recommended powder charges for the Paramount line and shared the information in this facebook post .

The new recommended loads of Blackhorn 209 are as follows:

.40 Cal - 150 grains by volume (105 by weight)

.45 Cal - 160 grains by volume (112 by weight)

.50 Cal - 170 grains by volume (119 by weight)

This is a bit of a change from just a few weeks ago when CVA announced their new Paramount HTR (Hunter), a new .40 cal precision inline muzzleloader built specifically for hunters. The HTR was announced with the capability to shoot 170 grains of BH209, giving it muzzle velocities close to a centerfire rifle.

CVA staff have defended the change noting that the accuracy at 170 grains by volume isn’t much of an improvement over the lower 150 grains.

As we write this story, the CVA page for the Paramount HTR states that the muzzleloader CAN handle the super magnum 170 grain charges.

The change has attracted some frustrated commenters asking CVA to have solid numbers before they make an announcement and CVA staff have responded is a very understanding manner, see below:

While it looks like CVA were a bit too quick to the bunch here on recommending 170 grains for the .40 cal HTR, they are getting out there and informing customers before the products ship and have been understanding of customer concerns.
