The Honourable Company of Horners -- HCH remains firmly committed to its original mission – educating its members and the public about horn working and its history. Contemporary Makers – “When Robert Weil started collecting images for the Contemporary Makers book in 1973 the challenge to record contemporary gun work was daunting. Few makers thought that there was any value in published documentation of their work. Electronic publishing has changed all that.” This blog is an ongoing registry of artists and their crafts. Use the blog as education or for inspiration, either way, it’s a huge asset to the world.
American Longrifles – “The mission is to promote and support the art and craft of building historically accurate long rifles, related firearms, and accouterments of the highest quality and artistic merit.” Interested in building a rifle? Check out their online gun building tips and their selection of books for your library.
Dixon Muzzleloading – They carry a variety of parts to build traditional or contemporary longrifles, Lee and Lyman reloading equipment, Lyman muzzleloaders, Pedersoli muzzleloaders, repro-duction Civil War muskets, Uberti black powder revolvers, Speer and Hornady cast balls, Ox-Yoke and Circle Fly Shooting Products, Mountain State ramrods, in addition to Treso jags and spouts. We consign new and used long rifles, muskets and traditional muzzleloading rifles, pistols and fowlers. We also offer bags, horns and the tools and materials to build your own.
Contemporary Longrifle Association – The organization defines it mission as a collaborative effort of its 2000 members dedicated to preserving the tradition of the contemporary longrifle, related accouterments and art forms created after the mid-twentieth century.
Kentucky Rifle Association -- Forged in the heat of battle, the name is covered with glory. This should be enough! But there is more. The name, through long association, conjures up a mental image of the rifle. Say "Kentucky Rifle" and people know what you are talking about. Say anything else and you have to explain!
Black Powder Mag – There is a lot to see and do on this site, no matter what your level of interest and skill is. It appears to be neglected as of late, but that doesn’t stop us from enjoying the articles, videos, interviews, and how-to tips.
Blackpowder 411 – “Black Powder 411 is an online directory for the black powder community. It is a place for contemporary builders, gunmakers and other primitive arm artisans to list their businesses and specialties. Our Parts-Kits-Services-Sutlers section includes Civil War suppliers too.” Like a few other sites I list, this one seems to have been abandoned. But, don’t let that stop you from enjoying the mountain of information that awaits.
Mark Elliott Artist & Craftsman -- I think of myself as an artist and craftsman working in a number of mediums… I concentrate on the recreation of historically correct shot pouches, powder horns, and fraktur as a business. Going forward, my primary role will be as a harness maker and horner; doing all sorts of period leather and horn work.
American Pioneer Video -- The goal of American Pioneer Video was to promote an appreciation of our American heritage and educate through an entertaining format. Creating videos which demonstrate how to recreate either the products or the lifestyle promotes the arts from the 18th Century. We are currently scheduling future projects and anticipate releasing at least one new video per year at the annual Contemporary Longrifle Association (CLA) show in Lexington, Kentucky.
