Flintlocks after Dark | The Candle Shoot at Coal Creek | NMLRA Muzzleloading

Note: Loading was done by light to ensure safe and proper procedure on the line.

Legend has it that a frontiersman worth their weight could snuff a candle with a roundball at 25 yards. The "Candle Shoot" seeks to honor that legend while letting modern marksmen test their skills.

This match was shot at dusk (Camera makes it look darker than it is). For safety, reloading was done by light, but in position, there was not light available but the flame of the candle. 2 skilled shooters snuffed the candle this evening, but many more had the honor of joining the "Flicker Club".
