2017 GS SEMINAR FLYER
It is time to start planning for the 2017 seminar at Western. There are a number of changes planned for this year that will help with scheduling vacation and making payment for selected classes. Early registration for a class or classes will begin on October 1st and continue until February 3rd 2017. To register early for a class a minimum payment of half the course fee is required. For those individuals enrolling only in a three day class, a minimum of $200 is required for members of the NMLRA or $250 from a non-member. When registration takes place participants will be asked for a first, second, and third choice of classes. Early registration is the best opportunity to make sure of enrollment in the class or classes of choice.
On February 3rd, 2017 full payment for the seminar must be received at the NMLRA office in Friendship, IN. February 3rd is also the last day to cancel a class. On February 13th, participants will be sent official notification of their class schedule for 2016. In the case of a cancellation on February 5th the participant will receive a full refund minus $200 or $250 for non-members. After the 3rd, participants must provide documentation for the cancellation (medical emergency or death of a family member) for a refund minus $200 or $250. Late registration for a class will be considered if there is sufficient room in the requested seminar class.
The cost for seminar classes remains the same as it has been for years. The cost is $120 per day for all classes. A three day class cost is $360, a six day class cost is $720, and a nine day class cost is $1,080. Participants will be responsible for purchasing tools and materials for each class enrollment. The instructional team will provide registrants with a listing of tools and materials required by February 28th, 2017.
The seminar for 2017 runs from Wednesday, May 31st until Friday the 9th. Three day class will begin on Wednesday, May 31st at 1:00 p.m. CST and end on
Friday the 3rd at 5:00 p.m. Six day classes begin on Sunday, June 4th at 8:00 a.m. CST and end on Friday June 9th at 1:00 pm. Nine day classes begin on Wednesday, May 31st at 1:00 p.m. CST and end on Friday June 9th at 1:00 p.m. Two seminar picnics will be held. The first will be on Saturday June 3rd at 4:00 p.m. at the Leeper farm and the second picnic at Herschel’s home on Wednesday, June 7th at 5:00 p.m. Registration fees will cover the cost of the picnics. Quill work classes for 2016 will be the only class sections offered in reverse order. The nine day quill class will begin on May 31st at 1:00 p.m. followed by the six day quill class that begins on Sunday, June 4th at 8:00 a.m., which is followed by the three day quill class that begins on Wednesday, June 7th at 8:00 a.m. All three class sections end on Friday at 1:00 p.m. This schedule enables the participants to receive essential instruction and full knowledge of quill work based on period processes. This arrangement maximizes the enrollment capability for all three quill classes.
A web page has been developed specifically for the NMLRA Seminar hosted by WKU. The web page will answer any questions that a prospective participant may have regarding what has been done in the past, the nature of instruction, and complete information and details for the 2016 seminar. To access the web page enter http://www.nmlragunsmithingseminar.org/. I look forward to seeing you at the seminar in June!
